Grandfather Clocks
A clock needs a place to rest where it is among the first things visitors see when they enter a home. We had just the spot. Our entryway had a glass mirrored wall by the stairs and just opposite the front door. It was the perfect spot for our antique grandfather clock. The chimes could be heard throughout the house and they were beautiful. After awhile the familiarity of the sound caused us not to hear them very much bet they were there.
Life was good!!!
I was working for IBM and we moved a lot. I think we moved that grandfathr clock 7 times and had an anxious moment each time we unpacked it. We had kept the original box and had a wooden crate built to surround the box. In all of our moves, never once was the clock damaged.
Our kids have grown up and moved away. When they come back for a visit, they complain the clock chiming keeps them awake or wakes them up. I tell them as long as they are awake to relax and enjoy the chimes of that marvelous clock.
I don't know what will become of the clock when my wife and I pass on to our reward, but I am hoping our son will want it and cherish it as much as we do. On those days in heaven when there is nothing else to do, maybe we can listen in and hear our antique grandfather clock chiming the hour.
