Antique Grandfather Clocks continued.
The antique grandfather clocks exist today even though some were made in the 1600's. Some of these clocks are very valuable. You can find them at places you would least expect them such as flea markets and newspaper ads. An excellent source of these fine antique grandfather clocks is an estate sale. An auction can be a source however, you muct be careful not to get caught up in the excitement of the bidding and pay more than the item is worth, or worse, more than you can afford. If you don't want to pay the prices of the authentic clocks, you can always buy a reproduction of the clock. I had always wanted an antique grandfather clock and but was not into antiques at the time, but my wife and I were driving from Indiana to South Carolina and passed a clock factory in the mountains of North Carolina. We stopped in and wound up buying a Colonial of Zeeland grandfather clock. It was new and was not an antique but we have had it for 40 years. It still works and we have a clockmaker adjust it occasionally.
Antique grandfather clocks have a lot of personality; each is chosen based on whether they go with the person's décor his/her personality. Just imagine having a clock that has a history. Some survived the wars, some survived events of the house, some have belonged to famous as well as notorious people, and some have a story to tell, if only they could talk. An antique grandfather clock is something that every family should have and treasure.
