Why I Love Antique Grandfather Clocks
Our Grandfather Clock Is An American Clock
We have a grandfather clock. It is just about 40 years old. We purchased it from a clock factory near Asheville, North Carolina. As antique grandfather clocks
go it would be small, about 18" wide and just over 6' in height. It has
a beautiful melodious Westminster chime. It may not be antique but it
is an American clock manufactured just over 100 miles from where I grew up.
There is something comforting about being in bed and here the tones of the quarter hour, half hour as they ring out. Over the years, my wife and I have heard it so much, the chiming doesn't register with us. In a way, that is kind of sad. When we have guests, they complain about the chimes waking them. I tell them as long as they"re awake, listen to our clock. Our daughters know how to turn the chime function off but I turn it back on as soon as I notice.
Ah...It is chiming 7:00PM now. Excuse me while I listen to this fine old American clock tell me the time.
